“As is well known, products made with traditional plastic do not allow efficient recycling processes and often contain highly polluting components.”

Eliminate microplastics in agriculture, through the development of products in biobased material.
• The new European Directive imposes severe restrictions on the release of microplastics, even in the agricultural sector (EU Directive of 23 October 2023);
• 450 million tons/year of plastic produced globally;
• From 27 to 35 million tons/year of microplastics released into the environment (agricultural and fruit and vegetable production has a strong impact on this figure)
Zeropack produces, to date (2025), plant clips that are based on IAMnature®, a revolutionary product made from PHA (polyoil-hydrocarbons), a polymer derived from bacterial fermentation and free of fossil fuels. PHA offers similar performance to several conventional thermoplastics while being of completely natural origin. It is the only known product compostable:
- in controlled environments (industrial composting, home composting, aerobic and anaerobic digestion, etc.)
- in uncontrolled environments such as soil, terrain, rivers, lakes and marine environments.
These products do not release microplastics into the environment and contribute to soil fertility, eliminating the need for disposal and reducing environmental impact.
The bioplastics used in Zeropack products (developed and produced by Bio-on, an Italian company, listed on the stock exchange, which developed and marketed mainly PHA) are obtained from plant sources -in particular agricultural waste- and are renewable without any competition with food chains; in most cases they guarantee the same thermo-mechanical properties as traditional plastics with the advantage of being completely 100% biodegradable in a natural way. Thanks to these particular characteristics, Bio-on now extends the use of its materials to the most innovative and interesting fields of application such as food packaging. Research in this field of application is based on PHBs, organic material that derives completely from nature.
For the future, Zeropack also aims to create other products for agriculture: films, boxes, small and large containers, supports and labels also useful for the wine sector.
Le certifications obtained are:
released into the ground
Limits to consider
• Is the cost of the products economically accessible, such as to make them a scalable solution?
• It is essential that compostability does not lead us to think that in general everything that is compostable can be left on the ground (or other environments) “so much nature returns”, de-responsible

Company founded by Bio-on, one of the global players in high-quality bioplastic, and Rivoira, one of the leaders in the worldwide distribution and production of quality fruit. Zeropack develops and markets products for agriculture and horticulture in 100% biobased plastics able to replace fossil-derived plastics. Zeropack imagines an unpolluted agricultural world, where every crop nourishes the soil in harmony with nature, respecting and regenerating it, embracing completely biodegradable and sustainable solutions for a healthier planet.
